Building a Fence for Brookwood
www.brookwoodflorida.org
We had a nice turnout and a great time building a fence at Brookwood. Eight Sunset Club members worked together digging post holes, sawing panels, drilling brackets and erecting a new PVC fence around some air conditioning units next to the main building on the campus. Materials for the project were provided by the Rotary Club of St. Petersburg. There was lots of fun and lots of laughs among the crew, and we look forward to finding other ways to lend a hand here.

Meal at Salvation Army
www.uss.salvationarmy.org
We had a nice turnout (10 people!) for our Salvation Army project. The crew helped make salads, french bread pizza, and cobbler for lunch, and then we served the residents and other locals in need. Bruce, the weekend kitchen chef, also had us clean the kitchen and tidy up the dining room. We fed about 60 people and had a great time working together and meeting the Sally’s community face to face!

Habitat for Humanity Build
www.phfh.org
The Sunset Club had a blast volunteering on a Habitat for Humanity build in Clearwater. We worked on two adjacent houses, and everyone had the chance to get a little dirty, as we helped with a wide range of tasks including installing doors & windows, attaching rooftop vents, fire caulking, blocking out walls and building soffets. It was a hard day of work, but fun was had by all. We are already looking forward to our next Habitat project!

Christmas Toy Shop
Yesterday, December 18th, 10 of our club members and friends helped to provide a little extra Christmas cheer to some families in the St. Pete area by helping Santa deliver toys to families in need. The Christmas Toy Shop Project, Inc. is a non-profit, all volunteer organization with the mission “we exist so that no child will be without a Christmas,” for children in need in South Pinellas County.
This was such a fun service project! Club members got to go ‘toy shopping’ with families helping to pick new and used toys that the Christmas Toy Shop acquires through donations and rehabbing used toys throughout the year. In 2009 this organization provided more than 3,000 children with toys for Christmas and just about 1,000 bicycles were issued as part of the overall distribution as well.
The club members, ‘ the elves’, had a busy morning of toy shopping and smiles and were able to join forces with the Rotary Club of St. Petersburg, our Sponsor Club, who also had a handful of volunteers there. It was a great event and we look forward to doing it again next year!

Adopt a Family for the Holidays
The club enjoyed some holiday spirit while shopping and then wrapping all the wonderful gifts that we got for our adopted family of 8 from the High Point Family Center. Each family member was assigned to a group of club members to make sure everyone got something especially for them. We also dedicated our happy dollars to the family during one of our December meetings, so that we could provide them with some groceries and a holiday feast, as well.

The club worked with Habitat for Humanity on some houses in St Petersburg. Most of the club members spent the morning painting a home in the late stages of the build, while one or two of the group headed next door and helped another Habitat crew erect trusses on a brand new build. No matter the task assigned, everyone worked hard and had fun doing it. Now a regular fixture on our service schedule, we will definitely be going back to help the folks at Habitat again soon.
