brookwood-logoThe Sunset Club is teaming up with our sponsor club, Rotary Club of St. Petersburg, to build a security fence at Brookwood Florida tomorrow morning! We will be start around 8:00am in hopes to be done by 12:00pm. The address for Brookwood is 901 Seventh Avenue South St. Petersburg, FL 33705. The project manager at Brookwood is taking down the previous fence and should have all of the materials we need for the project when we arrive, however he did suggest that if we have the following tools that we bring them:

  • Post Hole Digger
  • Screwdrivers
  • Rubber Mallets
  • Power Drill (with extra batteries)
  • It is also recommended that each volunteer bring water and a snack. It may be hot and we don’t want anyone to dehydrate.

    See you there!

Great Time Volunteering at Special Olympics!

    March 14th, 2011

specialolympicsTwelve club members and guests participated as volunteers for the Special Olympics service project. The Sunset Club volunteers ran the bocce games, with duties including scorekeeping, measuring, cheerleading, and running. It was a fun and meaningful service opportunity. In the words of member and volunteer, Stephanie Cox, “By the end of the day, it was easy to feel like we had won something as volunteers even though we didn’t actually compete. We had won an experience where we witnessed sports as they should be; games of pure unadulterated fun.”

The crew helped make salads, french bread pizza, and cobbler for lunch, and then we served the residents and other locals in need. Bruce, the weekend kitchen chef, also had us clean the kitchen and tidy up the dining room. We fed about 60 people and had a great time working together and meeting the Sally’s community face to face!
